about

I was taught this song by my Dad, Matt Neville and my Uncle John Neville over my entire childhood listening to them play guitar and sing with each other. It was originally written by one of their good friends, Dean Mong along with another friend named Leland P. Weeks back in the 1970's. I always loved it and have fond memories of family and parties where we'd all jam and sing it loud. Those are some of my fondest memories, such good times, and good jams. The lyrics are awesome and just always seem to still be relevant to this day. Some hate it, some love it, it's always been that way and probably always will. The original by Dean is acoustic, slower, and a little bit different. This one is my version of the song as I've learned it over the years. Dean was kind enough to give me permission to do his song in my style and version for this album. He's a fine fellow and quite the extraordinary song writer.

lyrics

God & Lyrics - Originally By Dean Mong, (edited Patrick Neville version) - Used with permission.

McGovern was a commie fag
On Veteran's Day I fly my flag
Late at night I stand up from screwing
When 'The Star Spangled Banner' comes on

I belong to the KKK
Friday's our cross burnin' day
Lynchin' liberals ain't legal
but it sure is fun

I believe in God and Nixon
Holy Rollers and ticket fixing
The Righteous, they above the law
I believe in Billy Graham
My favorite uncle's still Uncle Sam
Kill hippies with my chain saw
Eat apple pie (and your mother too!)

I get my kicks off killin' deer
I spend my nighttime drinkin' beer
I stand up and cheer
when they talk about droppin' the bomb

I come home from the construction site
I go home to my TV at night
My TV's broken
So I sit around and oil my guns

I believe in God and Nixon
Holy Rollers and ticket fixing
The Righteous, they above the law
I believe in Billy Graham
My favorite uncle's still Uncle Sam
Kill hippies with my chain saw
Eat apple pie (and your mother too!)

Dr. Spock is a big fat zero
John Wayne is still my hero
I tried marijuana once
but I got sick

I get my hair cut once a week
I wear my wingtips till they squeak
Brylcream aint never
done anybody no harm
(Brylcream-a little dab will do ya, try some, especially in your pubic hair!)

I believe in God and Nixon
Holy Rollers and ticket fixing
The Righteous, they above the law
I believe in Billy Graham
My favorite uncle's still Uncle Sam
Kill hippies with my chain saw
Eat apple pie (and your mother too!)
